Don't Waste Your Time in the West Kootenays

Where Locals Hike

The Where Locals Hike series of hiking guidebooks, published by hikingcamping.com, currently includes two books:

Where Locals Hike in the Canadian Rockies, The Premier Trails in Kananaskis Country, near Canmore & Calgary

Where Locals Hike in the West Kootenay, The Premier Trails in Southeast B.C., near Kaslo & Nelson

The Canadian Rockies book covers the 55 most rewarding dayhikes and backpack trips in a spectacular but little-known stretch of the Canadian Rockies, next to the famous national parks.

The West Kootenay book covers the 50 most rewarding dayhikes and backpack trips in the Selkirk and West Purcell ranges of southeast British Columbia.

The authors of both Locals books are the opinionated hikers: Kathy and Craig Copeland. Together, they've hiked more than 40,000 kilometers worldwide and devoted their lives to creating uniquely compelling, helpful guidebooks.

The Copelands own and run hikingcamping.com, an independent, creativity-driven company that publishes and distributes both Where Locals Hike books, as well as numerous other hiking and camping titles.

Their best-known hiking guidebook is Don't Waste Your Time in the Canadian Rockies, the Opinionated Hiking Guide. It covers 138 dayhikes and backpack trips in Banff, Jasper, Kootenay, Yoho and Waterton Lakes national parks, plus Mt. Robson and Mt. Assiniboine provincial parks. Camp Free in B.C. is the Copelands' wildly popular guide providing precise directions to hundreds of free campgrounds throughout British Columbia.
